For a person to step outside of their own personal opinion, they would have to be neutral. And being neutral with your own opinions simply isn't possible. People always have to take sides, and not one person can be considered neutral when it comes to their beliefs. Beliefs shape who we are as a person, and being neutral in every way simply isn't human.
In a perfect world where people can give in and step out of their beliefs boundaries, agreeing with some one with beliefs opposite of yours is entirely possible. But we don't live in that world. It is truly a nice notion but I don't think people will readily give up what shapes them as a person. You might as well be taking their identity away from them. Because for most to all people, what they believe and what they think they are shapes the paths of their lives. Gazing at the world through rose colored spectacles is more satisfying then walking through the world without them. The world as it is can be harsh, and their beliefs mask all the unsavory truths they don't want to come face to face with.
