Everyone cuts corners. Hell, even the SF Examiner does. Case and point: the dominant photo on the front page. The story was about a 13 year old Australian boy and his family getting deported because he beat up a kid for 46 cents, amongst other things. Back to the picture - I can assure you this is a picture of one of the staff member's hands.
How can I assume this so easily? I can safely assume this because I am a grizzled veteran of high school journalism. Back in the good old days of "newspaper", whenever a photographer fell short of their assignment or procrastination got the best of people; a staff member would always have to lend their body for a picture. I couldn't tell you how many times my hands, butt, and everything but my head were used for a picture. Were the pictures the best? No. But they were adequate; just as the dominant photo for the SF Examiner is.
Let this be a warning for you: cutting corners will always result in adequate, and sometimes below-average work. I know cutting corners is easier, but at times it's not as rewarding. It's like saying cheese wiz is as good as real cheese. Because at the end of the day cheese wiz has no nutritional value, and saying it's as good as the real thing makes you a god-damn liar. Such can be said with a procrastinator's sub-par work.
